Trump Team Requests Recount of Georgia’s Presidential Race | Political News

President Donald Trump’s campaign requested a recount of votes in the Georgia presidential race on Saturday, a day after state officials certified results showing Democrat Joe Biden won the state, as his legal team presses forward with attacks alleging widespread fraud without proof.

Georgia’s results showed Biden beating Trump by 12,670 votes out of about 5 million cast, or 0.25%. State law allows a candidate to request a recount if the margin is less than 0.5%. Republican Gov. Brian Kemp formalized the state’s slate of 16 presidential electors.

The Trump campaign sent a hand-delivered letter to the secretary of state’s office requesting the recount in an election that has been fraught with unfounded accusations of fraud by Trump and his supporters.

A Trump legal team statement said: “Today, the Trump campaign filed a petition for recount in Georgia. We are focused on ensuring that every aspect of Georgia State Law

Despite almost-steady steady rain Oct. 19, more than 4,300 voters showed up at the Franklin County Board of Elections to cast an early in-person ballot – the third highest in the two weeks the early voting center has been open. Voters waited for up to 45 minutes to cast their ballot.

After two weeks of uncertainty, Gahanna-area voters will soon know the fate of a school levy and bond issue package that was too close to call on Election Day.

And though it won’t affect the Ohio Senate’s overwhelming Republican majority, the outcome of the 16th district’s razor-thin race in western Franklin County will also finally become official.

The Franklin County Board of Elections will meet at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday to certify the official results of the Nov. 3 general election.

Hand tally of presidential race finds new ballots

ATLANTA (AP) — A hand tally of the presidential race in Georgia has turned up more than 2,500 votes in one county that weren’t previously counted, but election officials said Monday that isn’t expected to alter the overall outcome of the race.

Nearly 5 million votes were cast in the presidential election in Georgia, and Democrat Joe Biden had been leading Republican President Donald Trump by about 14,000 votes. The Floyd County election board chairman said he didn’t have an immediate breakdown of the newly discovered ballots but unofficial results previously reported showed Trump with 70% of the county’s votes to 28.4% for Biden.

“The reason you do an audit is to find this kind of thing,” said Gabriel Sterling, who oversaw the implementation of the new statewide election system for the secretary of state’s office.

Sterling said this appears to be an isolated problem and that there are “no

Georgia secretary of state announces ‘full by-hand recount’ for presidential race

Flanked by several elections directors from across Georgia, Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger announced Wednesday that due to how slim the vote margin is between President-elect Joe Biden and President Donald Trump, the state’s planned audit will trigger a “full by-hand recount in each county” of the presidential race.

“This will help build confidence. It will be an audit, a recount and a recanvass all at once,” Raffensperger, a Republican, said. “It will be a heavy lift, but we will work with the counties to get this done in time for our state certification.”

Neither ABC News nor Edison Research has projected a winner in Georgia’s presidential contest. Nearly 5 million votes were cast in the presidential race in Georgia. Currently, Biden is leading in the state by about 14,000 votes,

Brad Raffensperger, Georgia secretary of state, announces hand recount for the presidential race

Georgia officials on Wednesday announced an unprecedented hand recount of all ballots cast in the state, where presumptive President-elect Joseph R. Biden held a lead in the election.

President Trump‘s campaign welcomed the announcement by Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger, which advanced Mr. Trump‘s challenge to election counts across the country, though he has far to go to claim a second term.

The Trump campaign began organizing to have its eyes on every ballot, including mail-in, absentee and votes cast in person on Election Day.

The campaign, however, suffered a blow to its legal fight pending before the Supreme Court over Pennsylvania’s extended counting of mail-in ballots. State officials said about 10,000 mail-in ballots arrived after Election Day, an amount too small to change the outcome for Mr. Trump.

He trails by about 50,000 votes, or
