Home Depot settles $17.5 million lawsuit after data breach

Home Depot, a Georgia-based home improvement store, will pay a $17.5 million settlement to 46 states including Ohio, Kentucky and Indiana regarding a 2014 data breach, officials announced Tuesday.

The breach exposed the payment card information of approximately 40 million Home Depot consumers nationwide, according to a release.

Hackers gained access to The Home Depot’s network and deployed malware on the company’s self-checkout point-of-sale system during the breach, the release states. Hackers were able to obtain self-checkout lane users’ payment card information between April 10, 2014 and Sept. 13, 2014.

Lawsuit challenges Dane County’s public health order banning indoor gatherings

MADISON, Wis. —  A lawsuit that was filed in Wisconsin’s Supreme Court on Monday looks to overturn the gathering ban and restrictions recently put into place by Public Health Madison and Dane County.

The new public health order, which went into effect Wednesday, bans indoor mass gatherings with anyone outside of your household and limits outdoor gatherings to no more than 10 people.

A group of Pennsylvania Republicans filed a lawsuit over the weekend to block certification of the state’s election results in an eleventh-hour attempt to overturn Joe Biden’s victory in the key battleground state.

The emergency petition, filed in state court, takes issue with a voting reform bill that passed Pennsylvania’s Republican-held legislature in October last year. They alleged their boss had broken the law by using the agency to serve the interests of a political donor and friend, Nate Paul, an Austin real estate investor.

Maxwell and Penley — who had been on leave for a month before their termination — are two of the four senior aides who sued the Texas attorney general’s office Thursday, claiming they suffered unlawful retaliation.
